On this tour we will be visiting the west side of the Island, Sete Cidades and it’s beautyful lakes.
Driving towards to the West side of the island, that takes us to the parish of Sete Cidades. On the way, we will be seeing spectacular landscaping views, such as and North, Central and South coasts of the island, as well as the Fogo volcano located in the middle of the Island surrounded by green vegetation.
Meanwhile, and before arriving at Sete Cidades, we will pass by Parque do Canário, located in Serra Devassa, it’s a forest area that has some of the most beautiful landscapes of the island and an extraordinary botanical variety. For this reason, the park is set in a zone classified as Protected Landscape.
Sete Cidades and it’s beautyful lakes, we will also visit the Vista do Rei viewpoint, where you will again enjoy a magnificent view, this one over the Blue and Green lakes, one of the 7 wonders of Portugal, with a green landscape, surrounded by hills of hydrangeas dazzling all who visit.
Driving to this parish, we will make one more stop, this one at the Miradouro da Lagoa de Santiago.
This lake is located at 334 meters from the sea level, has a length of 700 meters, a width of 475 meters and approximately 29 meters deep.
The farming parish of Sete Cidades located at the bottom of the crater with the same name, will be visited where you will have the opportunity to look at the church of Saint Nicolas built in 1857.
The return to Ponta Delgada will be trough the South coast where we will stop at the “Miradouro do Escalvado” for a superb view over the fishing village of Mosteiros, with beautiful summer homes, beaches and natural pools, and the famous rocks leftovers of an extinct volcano.
Before the end of the tour we will be visiting the Arruda´s Pineapple Plantation located at Fajã de Baixo. Our pineapple is grown inside of glass green houses, taking on average 2 years to be harvest.
